Your iphone and the download situation

Are you at all aware that it’s completely possible for you to download completely free Iphone games and movies? It’s completely surprising how many Iphone owners have no idea about this. If this is something that interests you, read on to find out how you can get in on it.

Itunes is in theory a great idea. Thousands and thousands of downloads almost instantly available. Unfortunately, the downloads can be expensive if you make it a regular habit, and that’s why more and more people are looking elsewhere for their Iphone game downloads. The only problem is that it can be very tough to know which kinds of sites you can trust to let you download free Iphone games and movies.

Everyone knows about the p2p or filesharing sites, and it does seem that for the last couple of years these are the kinds of sites that almost everyone gets their downloads from. You probably have a buddy that spends all his time amassing a ridiculous music or video collection, and chances are he gets them from sites like this. It can seem like a good idea, but ultimately it’s flawed. Why? Because downloading through sites like this is illegal. I’m no legal expert, but as far as I can tell, the sites are within the law to offer the downloads, but it’s against the law to actually download them. Weird huh?

The other option is the paid membership sites. Opinions are split on these sites, as they do seem like some kind of filesharing site, only you have to pay for access. The theory is that the money goes toward making the downloads cleaner and safer. With the regular filesharing site model, there is nothing in place to vet anything that’s uploaded, which means anyone can upload anything. This causes a lot of problems and in theory that’s what the money is for with the new sites. Does this then make the newer sites legal? I have no idea, in all honesty. I guess if the downloads are regulated in some way and the money is shared between the movie makers and games developers etc it could be legal, but you should probably seek expert advice first.

The last option is unfortunately the most prolific. You’ll see a ton of these “scam” sites, as they are known. You can usually spot them by them having a ton of advertising and popups and all kinds of sparkly flashing stuff to get your attention. The real reason for this is cold hard cash. These guys get their income from site visitors clicking on their advertising, so they basically lure you in with the promise of something great, and when you realise it’s not there the hope is that you click on the ads when you leave the site. Clever, but hardly ethical.

Ultimately, the choice of where to get your downloads is up to you…but I’m betting itunes suddenly looks pretty good huh?
